Ugh. What a long day. And it's only 1:30

I had Husbandry this morning. I was going to get up at 6:00am but since I had to be there at 6:30 I thought that was cutting it a little close. So I got up at 5:30.
For Husbandry we are given special key cards. If we are the first in we have to disarm the alarm. So I met up with the two first years and we went inside. But the alarm wouldn't disarm.
Thankfully Emma was coming up. She came in and disarmed the alarm with her card. Then security was there (holy they were fast). Emma explained that my keycard wasn't working, and security said it came up on their screen that the card wasn't programmed to disarm the alarm. So now poor Emma has to go through and reprogram all the cards.
Husbandry took forever. I ended up taking the cats, which was pretty fast. But we were already behind because its the first little while and there is a lot of crap we had to go over. The girls took FOREVER with the dogs, so I did some cleaning, gave the one dog medication. By then it was 8:05 and I was supposed to be in class. So I asked Lisa if I could go since it was a surgery day. So I left.

So today was surgery day. We were neutering a dog named Toby. Dr. Dunn was our vet. The surgical team consisted of Kim and Jen as the anesthetiests and Molly and Krystal as the surgical assistants. Dani and I were the circulating nurses.
What a shit day. It was long and I was frustrated for most of the time. We had to take some blood from Savannah, a skittish little Tortie. I went to get her and for some reason Dani followed me. I didn't notice until the cat flipped out when I was taking her out of the cage. I turn while trying to hold onto her and realise Dani is standing there with the DOOR OPEN into the hall. So I basically had to scream at her to close the damn door before this cat shoots out.
So whatever. We finally get her, and we are getting ready to do bloodwork. I realise Dani has grabbed the wrong cats sheet. Jesus. So she fixes that after I have to explain to her like five times what is happening. I am holding the cat and Dani is setting up. She gets this alcohol pad and opens it RIGHT infront of the cat. Now cats are extremeley sensitive to the smell of alcohol. Well... Savannah was no exception. She FREAKED out, foaming at the mouth and literally flipping around. I managed to keep hold of her but got my hand scratched up in the process.
The day is not going off to a good start...
After Dani got the blood, we tried to cysto. I tried first. The cats bladder was pretty small, so we weren't sure if we would get it. Basically you put the cat on their back, palpate for the bladder, then insert the needle through their abdomen. Well the tech helping us couldn't feel the bladder while on her back since she was so tense, so she showed me where to generally try. No urine. The tech tried too and nothing. So Savanah was stressed out and we let her go.

Now that we had blood, we had to run tests. We had to do a PCV/TP, CBC, Blood Chemistry, Manual WBC count, Differential, platelet count, and morphology.
So while Dani struggled trying to figure the microcope out, I did the PCV/TP. Emma came and showed us the CBC machine and the Chemistry machine. Dani finally figured out the microscope around the time I was finishing the WBC count.
Since I was done, I started to clean. I did some things, like deworming a dog, checking on Savannah, etc.
But oh my god I was so frustrated. Since we were pressed for time I asked Dani if she can do a Differential fast, since I can do one in 10-15 minutes. She said yes, she is fast. Well after the figured the microscope out, it took her like an HOUR to do the damn thing.

Anyways everyone was way behind schedule. The dog was supposed to be out of surgery at 10:30, but he got sedated around that time. So none of us got out of there until about 1:20.

Fun fun.

So life over here in Ottawa isn't too bad.
This week has been an adventure. We got animals into the facility FINALLY. 4 dogs and 2 cats. Me and some other volunteers spent Monday afternoon health checking them, vaccinating them, and checking them in. They all seem to pretty cool, and of relatively good temperment.

I have a bit of a rant about my "partner" for the semester. The deaf one. Jesus. It is NOT her deafness that is the problem. I had a four hour Husbandry shift at the Humane Society yesterday. I showed up pretty early so Kathy and Iona greeted me. When they asked who my partner was, they sort of looked like they wanted to die (haha).
So while we waited for her to show up (late, as usual), we talked a lot about the program and how we really are losing a massive asset now that we aren't at the Humane Society. My partner finally showed up, and we were put to work cleaning these two rooms. A disease had gone through the area so we needed to clean the place literally head to toe. So that took us two hours. She is so freaking slow.
When we finally finished that, Kathy got us doing what we used to do. Vet Rounds had been done. When the vet examines an animal he takes the animals cards and prescribes meds. Our job was to take these cards and the medication, pair the proper medication with the proper card, then find the animal. Not an issue. We did this constantly before, and it's not hard to match since it will tell you what the animal looks like and where they are.
Well I got called away by the vet to help her restrain some stuff, and left my partner to the matching. When I came back, I noticed in the sneeze room there was a cat without a card. There was also a card sitting on the table. No problems, she probably just forgot to put the card up. Until I realise that the card does not match the cat.
Kathy comes in at this point and I'm realising she has screwed something up. The card is for an orange tabby. There is a tortie in the cage with no card. So Kathy and I find that the cat beside this one is an orange tabby. But the card says it's a black cat.
So now we have realised my partner has COMPLETELY effed everything up. So Kathy and I spend the next hour re-arranging the cards. She had torbie cards on siamese cats, everything. What the hell. We learned breed identification a long time ago. How the hell hard is it to tell the difference between an orange tabby and a black cat? Come ON.
So yeah I was ready to kill her. I was so glad when that was done.

We have no more tests for a while now. The 14th is the next one I think. We had 4 in the past 2 weeks. So I'm going to relax a bit. I picked my OSAP up today and I also got a grant that I don't have to pay back. Awesome, free money!

Bah. I had my alarm set for 7:30 today, since I had class at 9:00. So I'm completely passed out, and I get woken up by music. It's about 7:00am. I figured maybe someone had a loud car stero and it was coming into my room somehow. But then I recognized the music as this weird opera like song that my roommate constantly plays. So for some reason at 7:00am, my roommate is playing obscenely loud OPERA music. The song ends and it goes quiet. Fine. I reset my alarm for 8:00 so I can sleep in a bit more, then go back to sleep.
At like 7:40, the same song comes on. I had just fallen back to sleep, so I woke up and decided I was done trying to sleep. So I went to have a shower. Sure enough my roommate has her music on loud. And her door is open, which makes it carry into my room more. So I tell myself I will talk with her when I get out of the shower. I finish my shower and she is nowhere to be found. A sticky note on my door reads she has left for the weekend.
Blargh. Ah well. It just seems annoying since I go out of my way in the mornings to ensure I don't wake her up. I don't slam doors, I put headphones on if I'm listening to music, etc. She has a nasty habit of letting her alarm go off every 10 minutes for an hour, and also seems to like to play music loud. Blah.

Oh well. The day is over. I only had two hours of class, and then a group of us left for our weekly Denny's outing. Now that I'm home, I'm gonna relax and do homework. Oh, and play music extremely loud, since I respect my roommate and only play it loud when I know she isn't around.

So I haven't updated in a while. And I have a few things to talk about.
Our building is pretty cool. I don't have any pictures of it yet, but I will try to get some, probably when I have a husbandry shift. It's pretty far away from the main campus (well, it's not that far, but a longer walk than usual to class). It's a pretty big building. There is the main lobby area where there are benches along the walls and lockers where we hang out. There are bathrooms and changerooms, one classroom that doubles as a lab, a briefing room that apparently doubles as our lounge, and offices. Then there's the clinic side which is a reception area, exam rooms, etc. Back behind that is the treatment area, surgery, xray, dental room, rooms for dogs, cats, and our rodents, etc. There is a groom room, isolation ward, a bunch of stuff. It's pretty cool.
But because we have drugs, and because some crazy PETA people may think we are conducting research, the building is extremely secure. We have swipe cards that only work certain hours. And they only give us access to the halls, we need a separate card to get into the classroom and the animal holding area where the surgery/treatment area is. We do get cards that allow us access into those areas however when we have to do husbandry (aka taking care of the animals in the building on mornings, evenings and weekends), but they only work the day and time you are scheduled for husbandry.
Despite it being a little inconvenient with the obsessive security, it's a nice building. I can't wait until it's up and running with animals.

Which comes to my one class - Clinical Exercises. Last semester we went to the Humane Society for this class, to work on our practical skills like taking blood, intubating, etc. Well now that we have this building, we will be doing everything there. The class was split in half, then split into subgroups and pairs. Unfortunately I am paired up with the deaf girl in the class. Which I normally wouldn't have a problem with, if she weren't completely retarded when it comes to some things. Being deaf does hinder her in some ways, which has me a little stressed. How is she going to be an anesthetist in surgery if she can't hear what the vet is saying becuase he has a mask on, and can't wear the microphone she has on his sterile gown? It just has me frustrated, and stressed out. I have worked with her before and I hate it. She doesn't know what she is doing and I honestly thing I will end up babysitting her the entire time. And I really don't want her to hold me back because she doesn't know what the hell she is doing. People have complained about her before when they have had to work with her, but nothing gets done. Well now that the professors will actually be around to see that she screws up and needs constant babysitting, they may do something about it. We shall see, because I really want to enjoy this semester and having to deal with her is going to put a damper on it.
I do NOT trust her. Today we were practising with IV catheters (its like a needle with a shealth around it that sits in the vein and you can take the actual needle out). We had to practise prepping our partners arm, injecting the catheter (we didn't inject, we just pretended to and did it near the skin), pulling the needle out and advancing the catheter, taping and wrapping. I didn't really trust her so I ended up working with Donna for it, and Jon got stuck with her. Well it turns out she managed to somehow poke Jon with the needle. Moron.
I'm a little worried about her. We have to do a dentistry on an animal, while our partner monitors their anesthesia. I do NOT want her monitoring my animals anesthesia. I would rather do the dentistry myself with some sort of sterile cane to control the anesthetic. Honestly.

Oh well, we will see what happens. She may be ok, but I am definately going to think on the pessimistic side of things so I'm not surprised when she messes up.

Anyways that's my update for now. I'm real tired. I think I'm going to bed early.

Well I managed to go the entire Christmas break without updating. Probably because nothing happened.
I had planned to do some fun stuff over the holiday, like going tubing. But because of Collingwoods lack of snow, the resort closed for most of the break. They opened up on the 27th or 28th, but with only a few ski runs open. And tube town needs lots of snow to be able to run. When I left today it was like 7 degrees out so I have a feeling Blue may go down again.
Even though I didn't really do much, I enjoyed my time off and back at home. James was around a lot, so that was nice. No crazy antics like last year, like driving to Pearson Airport late Christmas eve.
I didn't get too much for Christmas, mainly because I didn't ask for much. Jason got me a gift certificate for Sears. James got me a cute stuffed dog and a really nice white gold necklace from Peoples. His mom got me a gift certificate for Kelseys and the Swiss Army perfume. His grandparents got me a nice robe. His aunt and uncle (and cousin) got me new PJs. From my parents I got a new winter coat with gloves and a hat, a nurses watch, this cool picture for the apartment that is a tree, but when you walk by it changes seasons from summer to fall to winter. I got a few other things, but can't really think of them at the moment. It was a good christmas. I sort of felt bad for not giving anyone anything, but that's the last year of that. All in all it was a nice Christmas. I got to see my family lots. And my pets of course.
So, I'm happy. And I survived the train. Katie and I were on the train together when we left Ottawa, and I was alone today. It was assigned seating, and it was the luck of the draw that no one sat beside me, which kicked ass. I tried to sleep but I had a stupid kid a few seats back who wouldn't shut the hell up.

So, I'm tired, but I figured I'd update. I ended up leaving my Vet Tech hoodie back in Collingwood. :( Oh well.

So the semester is over. I survived all of my exams. Today we had nutrition. That was a BRUTAL exam. A lot of people failed. The class average in the end was a 57%. Crazy exam. But the cool thing with that exam was, it was online so we knew our mark immediately and could figure out if we passed the course or not. So I know I passed the course. :)
Yippee! I'm really tired though. All our exams were at 11:30 but I was up early and at the school by 7:30 studying. So I am exhausted.

After the exam we went to the school pub and hung out. Sabrina got pretty wasted, she had a few shots. I left about an hour and a half in, and Sabrina came with me to use my phone. As we were leaving the pub, Dave was coming down the hall with one of those rolling hospital beds. I was thinking of jumping on it, but Sabrina beat me to the punch and threw herself on the bed, much to Dave's amusement.
So I've been spending most of the afternoon packing and cleaning. I'm packed, and my room is spotless. Around 6:30 Katie and I went over to Chances R and had dinner together. We are on the same train tomorrow so we will both be up bright and early. :)

Speaking of being up early, I'm going to bed. Good bye Ottawa (for two weeks)!

Dear roommate: When you alarm goes off loudly at 7am, please get up. Do not let it run for 2 minutes, turn it off, then go back to bed, letting it go off again and again until you decide to get up roughly half an hour later.
It's annoying.

Anyways, at the end of today I will be halfway done. Yay!

I have a rant to make about gaming. I was playing Capture the Flag in WoW today and the match pissed me off because our team members were morons.
Warning... nerdy rant (well, nerdy to some) )
The moral of the story? Don't play capture the flag with a team that sucks at it.

And now, no more WoW until after exams. I went out with a bang at least.

I'm almost done my study notes. I've finished my notes for Lab Procedures, Clinical Principals, and Livestock. Just Radiography and Nutrition left.
So I only have one exam this week. Friday at 4:00 I have my Lab Procedures practical exam.
Then next week I have one exam a day, each at 11:30am. Somewhere in there I need to pack and get my room ready to leave for the break.

Note for dad - Matt told me that we wouldn't be visiting Caroline until the weekend after I come home. James is coming to Collingwood on the 16th. If he meets us at Union can he bum a ride back home?

Here is my plan.
From now until next Saturday, I will be working hard to get my study notes done. I have notes for 5 tests. I also have a practical exam next Friday which I have to factor in.
My plan is to be able to get ALL of my study notes done before exams start. Then duing exam week I will buy instant coffee and study said notes like mad. It is going to be a tough two weeks but I think I can get through it. I'm about 80% done my Lab Procedures study notes, because I will need to spend most of my time on Clin Prin and Livestock just because of the amount of notes in those classes. I will probably spend the least amount of time on nutrition. I hope to finish my notes before I go to bed, which is good 'cause I don't have class until 2:00 tomorrow.
Let's hope it all goes well.

Today was my last day at the clinic. We had 4 spays, so it was busy. I got to scrub in and be sterile assistant for one of them. The only person in the clinic with my size gloves is allergic to latex so I got these cool green nonlatex surgical gloves. They were neat, but a little harder to get on because they had no powder. It was fun. Not like there is much assisting involved with a spay, besides holding hemostats.

Anyways, quick update. Now back to my notes, cause I wanna go to bed at a decent time.

Well I am feeling a lot better now.
I ended up taking Monday off school in order to catch up on sleep. Not that I had lost any. I actually was sleeping more, but I was just so tired it wasn't funny. So I slept in until about 10:30, when the housekeepers woke me up by banging on the door. Then I lazed around and did absolutely nothing. I woke up today and felt really good. Well, not really, but well enough.
I think just taking one day to veg out and not think about school or homework is what helped. Last year I didn't give myself a chance to slow down, with studying and assignments, and I think that may be what dragged my cold on. But not this time. I got notes from Chantal for the classes I missed, which apparently wasn't much.

Today I had an evaluation in Clinical Exercises. We had a 45 minute lecture with Jenn King to go over ECGs, ear flushing and intracariac injections. Then names were randomly picked for our evaluation. I didn't go for about half an hour, which gave me time to read up on my anatomy and whatnot.
The evaluation went good. Basically Jenn had a cat skeleton, a dissected cat, a fake mouth, and radiographs. She got me to name about 15 bones off the skeleton, a bunch of organs from the dissected cat, identify a few teeth. Then she got me to evaluate a bunch of radiographs on their contrast, detail, sharpness, etc. Someone in the group the week before told me to avoid getting Jen because she asked more questions than Lisa. It was the other way around this time, Lisa apparently asked a shitload of really obscure questions out of nowhere, and I believe she failed some people. No one failed with Jen though.
So now that the evaluation is over and done with, we get next Tuesday off. This Thursday is my last day at the clinic, and next Thursday is my last day at the Humane Society. I believe we are getting cards and/or treats for both of them as a thank you. I can't wait till it's all over, then it's two weeks of vegging out!
On the plus side, it turns out Katie is taking the same train as me, bright and early in the morning. She is taking a taxi since her suitcase is broken, so I am going with her and we will split the fare. So then we can keep each other company on the long train ride home. She gets off in Oshawa, which is one or two stops before I get off at Union Station in Toronto.
The original plan for the 16th was Dad would meet me at Union with James, since James wanted to test out a bus route from Toronto to Brampton (or something like that). Then we would go to Brampton and pick up Matt, drop James off, then go home and possibly visit my great aunt. Well things have changed. Matt's residence closes at 11 (like mine) and my train doesn't arrive until 11:15. So dad will have to pick Matt up first. We are I believe 100% seeing my aunt now. And James is going to Collingwood for four days starting the 16th, so he is going to meet us at Union and bum a ride off us. So I need to talk to dad, because we are visiting my aunt so I need to make sure it's Okay if James tags along.
Anyways, I'm sure it will all work out.

I feel a little better this morning. Knock on wood.

I was well enough to get up and do laundry, which I have been severely neglecting. And I actually ate something today besides chicken noodle soup. But the casserole I cooked on Friday makes me sick just looking at it (which sucks, because it's so good and there's $20 of chicken in it!) so I may have to not eat it.
Also, I'm 350 words into my Toxoplasmosis report, and I've only talked about what it is and clinical signs. Yay me!

In other news, only 19 days until I'm out of here. I will be so busy studying and writing reports that I may not get a chance to pack. Thankfully my last exam is at 11:30 on Friday and it's Nutrition. Knowing me I should blow through it in about 20 minutes. So then I can go home and pack. But we'll see, since I will want to go to bed early since my train leaves at 7:15am.
I have been practising my photography skills and I plan on getting some good pictures over the Holidays. Over the summer I took Daisy to the lake to swim a LOT and brought my camera half the time, and got good pictures. I think Daisy playing in the snow may make for a good photo opportunity.

honey tired
Yeah, so I'm sick. Sick as a dog. Blah.
Like I mentioned yesterday, my throat was sore, but that was it. I probably should have gone and picked something up at the pharmacy then to fend it off. But I didn't. I woke up this morning and it was like this cold hit me like a high speed train. I kept on waking up last night with my throat veeery dry, but nothing else. But when I got up I had a headache, I was sneezing and coughing, my muscles are all sore, and I am soo tired. I also randomly feel sick to my stomach. It really sucks.
I have been procrastinating against doing my report on Toxoplasmosis, and told myself I would do it today. Well, I haven't been able to, between the bouts of extreme fatigue where I need to lay down, and bouts of nausea. It sucks.
I went to the pharmacy to pick up some drugs, so hopefully they will help. I don't have much of an appetite at all, so I also picked up some chicken noodle soup.
I just want to fight this stupid thing off before exams.
If I'm not feeling better come Monday, I may not go to school. When I am sitting up and get a bout of fatigue I *need* to lay down because it feels like I'm going to either pass out or fall asleep where I am, and I can't deal with that in class. So I talked to Chantal and she said she would e-mail me the notes if I can't make it. Not like I want to miss class since I've only ever missed one day in the two and a half years I've been in college, so I will try my damndest to go. But this is bull.

Oh no. I woke up with a sore thoat this morning. :( I noticed last night the air in my room was extremely dry, so I'm hoping it's just irritation from that, and not a brewing exam-time cold.
Oh well. We got 96% on our Radiography assignment, so that cheered me up.

Tuesday was my third last day at the Humane Society this semester. At the Humane Society, there are four categories, surgery where you assist in surgery, hypodermics where you practise skills with needles and induction, floor, where you medicate all the sick animals, and sneeze, where you work in the sneeze room and clean. I listed those from most to least fun.
Well I'm the only person in my group who has managed to squeeze out of doing sneeze, so I called it that day. But they were training someone in sneeze room so I had to work in isolation. Which was fine. There were only about 8 cats. I had to medicate all of them, give the ones that needed it subQ fluids, then clean cages. Since there is such limited space I let the cat I was cleaning out run around on the floor. There were these three kittens there that were so cute. They kept attacking me and trying to climb my legs when I was cleaning them.
When I was done that I had to move this big fat black cat into the TBD room, which is the room where cats go when they are waiting to be euthanizred. :( It made me sad. I paid lots of attention to him before putting him in a carrier and dropping him off. For some reason it bothered me, when it usually doesn't (sad to say that I'm pretty much desensitized to that thing, but some days it depresses me).
So when I was done that I joined Jen and Jon, who were on the floor medicating animals. The humane society needs to get organized. We were in the stray room and there was this huge pitbull in there with a vicious sign on it. He was barking at us, but wagging his tail. He needed to get eye drops, ear drops and a pill. But since the card said he was nasty we left it alone. When we finished we couldn't find Kathy, but managed to track Iona down. She told us that Pitbull was friendly, he just didn't like his ears being touched. So back we went. Jon was gathering his medication while Jenn and I took him out (Rambo was his name) to get acquainted with him. He seemed friendly enough, if not a bit aloof though. So we made buddies. Jon came back with the meds and Jenn restrained him while I tried to open his mouth to shove my hand down his throat. Well I couldn't get my hand over his muzzle and he was not having any of this crap as he backed up so his ass was basically in Jens face. So jon went and got me some canned food so we put the pill in that and he gladly gulped it down. Now more torture. Hell, even his eyelids were stong, I had trouble opening them to put the goo in.
For his ears we decided to put his muzzle on. He HATED his ears getting medicated. When we were done we took the muzzle off and gave him lots of love before putting him back in his kennel.
Funny thing is about a half hour later we had tracked Kathy down and she was like "Yeah, don't medicate that big Pitbull". When we told her we did, she was like "WHAT? You TOUCHED him?!" Apparently he is nasty. He seemed fine with us. But yeah, they need to agree on something. Iona said jump in, Kathy said no. What if he WAS mean and had taken my arm off when I was trying to open his mouth? Or bit my face when I was giving him eye meds? I think maybe he has an agressive sign on his cage because he hates his ears being touched, and he sounds really nasty when he barks.

Yesterday was okay. We got our Clinical principle marks back for our presentation/report. I got 81%. Which is good, except it was the lowest mark out of the groups that presented. So I was a little bummed since I thought we did well. But it's still an A, so I don't care. I'm doing good in that class anyways.
I had quite the scare in Nutrition. At the end of the class, the professor pulled me aside and said we needed to talk alone. So fine, whatever. Once everyone left, the conversation went as such:
Prof: How are you?
Me: Fine, what's up?
Prof: I hate to tell you, but you are failing this class..
Me: What? How?
Prof: Well you missed the last test, and..
Me: Er, I got 94% on that test. Are you sure you are talking to the right person?
Prof: Er... oh crap.</font>
Way to scare me. Silly prof.
After class Sabrina, Kim, Jenn and I went to Dennys. It was Sabrinas idea. We went for dinner, but all of us but Jenn got breakfast. I love all day breakfast. Yum yum. I was stuffed though, and probably won't eat for a week.

Today I had Humane Society again. Yay, second last time there! Kayla was sick today so it was just Jon and I on the Otrain there.
It was a pretty laid back day. Amber and I were in hypodermics. The two of us plus Jon had to go find Iona. She was at a computer playing games that came from a cd we got out of our textbook. So we ended up playing Jeapordy, matching games, and hangman for about 20 minutes. Then we got down to buisness.
We had to take blood from some cats to send off forms to a lab. Both cats were not sedated, which is something neither Amber nor I have dealt with at the Humane Society yet. Amber went first. Her cat was so good. She was doing a jugular, and it took a while to get the blood, and the cat just happily sat there.
Too bad my cat wasn't as good (why do I always get the crazy cats?) He was friendly until we restrained him. Iona got me to take blood a different way. Instead of taking it from the neck with a simple needle and syringe, she wanted me to take it from the neck with a butterfly catheter. Which is quicker. Basically instead of taking blood out with a needle and syringe and putting the blood in the proper tubes, you hook the tubes onto the end of the tubing of the butterfly, and the vacuum within the tube draws the blood in. This means no pulling the plunger back or anything.
I'm glad we did it that way because the cat was fighting like hell. I hit the vein on my first try, even though the cat was screaming and flailing around. He twisted his neck around but I managed to stay in the vein. It was nice.
After that we did some xrays. And that's really all there was to it. We finished and Jenn, Jon and I went to McDonalds for dinner.
Now I should go work on my report.

So not a lot has happened since I last updated. My mom's birthday card to me, which had a gift card in it, was somehow lost in the mail. I doubt it was lost, it was probably put in the wrong mailbox here and someone took it. So that was pretty upsetting.

I've spent most of my time working on schoolwork, since I have a lot of assignments due. We have a huge Clinical Principles assignment tomorrow where we have to do a presentation on a surgical procedure. Fun.
So, I put a knife through my finger yesterday. I had gone grocery shopping and was opening a package with a knife. However I wasn't paying attention because I was listening to a commercial, and stabbed myself good in the finger. It took forever for it to stop bleeding, and it still hurts like hell. :(
Today I spent the afternoon at Carelton University with Sabrina, Donna and Kim to practise our presentations for tomorrow. On the way there, there was an accident on the freeway. A car took out a light pole in the center median and smashed his front end up. No ambulances/police were there yet, but it didn't look like anyone was hurt.

Other than that, nothing new. My roommate frustrates me. She was supposed to buy toilet paper the last time we needed it but she claimed she had no money. So fine, I bought it. So she said she would definately buy it next time.
Well today I came home from Carelton and there was none left. Jesus you'd THINK it'd be common sense to go buy some when you use the last of it. Apparently not. And she isn't around. I figured fine I will go to the pharmacy and get some, before I realise it's Sunday and they are closed. Thankfully they had some downstairs. Pissed me off, but maybe that's because I'm PMSing.

Anyways, that's my update. It is short because typing hurts.

You know how sometimes you stub your pinky toe and you swear it's broken because it hurts so much? But then the pain is gone a few hours later.

Well I believe I have broken my pinky toe. I was walking into my room and kicked my shoe. It must have been at an odd angle because it felt like I kicked a cement block. I stub my toe all the time so I sort of shrugged it off, until a few hours later I pushed my pinky toe upwards and it was veeery painful. So I just stayed off it for the day. Woke up this morning and it's bruised. I had to go out to pick up a prescription and go grocery shopping, and I didn't think I could make it. I was walking with a major limp. This sucks.

I have done nothing this weekend. NOTHING. This is my weekend off. Schoolwork starts... tomorrow.

I wasn't going to make an entry today because I was tired, but the fire alarm we just had woke me up a bit, so I will write now.
Today was my birthday. Yay 21!
I didn't do a heck of a lot though. I was at the Humane Society from 1-5pm. Thankfully I got to do hypodermics, which is good because I haven't been using needles for a while. I got to work with Kayla.
I got to do something new today! We had to sedate three cats for neuters with a Domitor cocktail (Domitor, Ketamine and Hydromorphone). This is done with an intramuscular injection. We have been taught to give the injection in the back leg, but they prefer to give this one in the back. So Iona asked if we wanted to try, so we did.
Kayla did it on one cat, and I got to do two, mainly because the first cat I did was psychotic and was freaking out the entire time, which made it hard. I got it though, with quite a fight. So Iona let me do the second cat since the first one was such a freaking battle.
After they were knocked out they were neutered and while still under anesthetic we got to practise with butterfly catheters and we took blood as well. Nothing really new there.
We set up for an xray afterwards to, on a little 12 week old puppy that had been hit by a car. She had a broken femur and what looked like a broken pelvis. I think they are going to save her, which is good because she's an awesome little dog.
We had to help the vet out a little bit with health checking some dogs. There are some really cute dogs in the stray ward, including a very large purebred Doberman. I wanted to steal her. :)

When 5:00 finally rolled around Amber, Jon, Kayla and I headed over to the Otrain to go home. Stupid machine took my money. Which sucked because I had no more money. You can get on the Otrain no problem without a ticket, but you need the ticket to get on the bus. So Amber ended up giving me bus money.
We finally got back to Rez where we met up with Shannon, Katie, Chrissy, Jen Boose, and a girl Jen brought with her. Then off to Dennies!
It was a good dinner. We didn't have to wait at all, which was a bonus. We were all very full. We ended up finishing up around 7:30 so everyone could go home and watch Grey's Anatomy.

Quite a fun day. I was on the phone with my mom tonight when the stupid fire alarm went off. But now that it's over, I may go to bed.

This has been a crazy school year. I haven't been updating lately because I've been doing lots of school work, and lots of studying. Here's basically my schedule for the rest of the semester.
November 6 - Radiography Test
November 8 - Lab Procedures Test
November 13 - Suturing Exam
November 15 - Nutrition Presentation
November 20 - Surgical Presentation
November 27 - Some other practical exam that is slipping my mind.
December 1 - Toxoplasmosis Assignment
December 8 - Leptospirosis assignment (optional, but if I can blow through it in 7 days then by god I'm doing it!)
Then exams...

UGH. Hell. This week I had a Clinical Principles test which I got a 79% on, and a Nutrition test which I got a 93% on. Unfortunately I doubt I will be getting on the honour roll this year, so it wont be on my diploma. :( Oh well. I don't think anyone anticipated this semester to be as difficult as it is, and I'm not going to kill myself trying to get a 3.6 GPA, since it's not worth it.

Anyways, I don't really have anything to write. I'm just letting people know I'm not dead.
